How Many? 01

Description

This Maths resource is aimed at pupils in middle/senior classes or AEN pupils with a special interest in number facts. The resource features a range of questions, all of which begin with “How many ….?” Lots of maths topics are included in the questions including time, length, shape, money and other maths vocabulary.

There are 50 cards in the pack with four cards per A4 page. Cut up the sheets into 50 separate cards and laminate the cards individually. The pupil has to read, if they are able, the “How Many?” question on the left of the card, find the correct answer on the right of the card from the three suggestions given and attach a clothes peg to that number. A list of answers is provided for the teacher.

This activity is especially suitable for pupils who may be really good at recalling maths facts but may not necessarily be able to write the answers. This is why using clothes pegs to indicate answers allows the pupil to demonstrate their ability.

This resource could be used as an independent task or a task with adult support. It would also be suitable for a group of pupils during Maths Station Teaching, where a pack is made available for the group. The resource could also be split up into two/three smaller packs.

This resource is also good for fine motor skills in the manipulation of the pegs onto the cards.

We frequently gave activities such as this for homework to our AEN pupils. It gave them the sense that they had homework like everyone else and it also allowed the parents to see the ability of their child to recall a range of maths facts.
