Welcome to our new website Peg-It.ie. The website has gathered together a range of classroom resources, across various aspects of the curriculum, which use clothes pegs to indicate an answer. We have used this methodology to great effect in our special class for autistic pupils for many years and have used many of the resources contained on this website with our pupils.
Ideally, the peg resource cards should be laminated so that they can be used again and again. We know that pupils learn by repetition and reinforcement and this is especially the case for SEN pupils. So these resources should be used again and again with pupils to consolidate the learning objective.
These resources are especially suitable for pupils who may not be able to write answers. It is a way for them to demonstrate their understanding but it is also good for fine motor skills in the manipulation of the pegs onto the cards.
We frequently gave activities such as these for homework to our AEN pupils. It gave them the sense that they had homework like everyone else and it also allowed the parents to see what topics we were currently working on in school.
While these resources were initially intended for use with AEN pupils, they are also ideal to be used with a range of pupils in learning support classes or in mainstream classes, especially for Station Teaching in Literacy and Numeracy.
