Description
This literacy resource is aimed at pupils in middle classes or SEN pupils. It is based on the identification of parts of grammar in a sentence – noun, verb, adjective, adverb. The pack contains 20 cards – on the left hand side of each card is a sentence with a word coloured red and underlined. The pupil has to use a clothes peg to identify on the right hand side of the card which part of grammar that word is.
Cut up the sheets into 20 separate cards and laminate them individually. The pack could be split up into two packs of ten cards.
This pack could be an ideal activity for a literacy station during Station Teaching. A pack of 6 sets could be put together, one for each pupil in the group, to be completed at a literacy station.
This activity is especially suitable for pupils who may not be able to write answers but who understand points of grammar, therefore it is a way for them to demonstrate this understanding. It is also good for fine motor skills in the manipulation of the pegs onto the cards.
We frequently gave activities such as this for homework to our SEN pupils. It gave them the sense that they had homework like everyone else and it also allowed the parents to see what literacy topic we were currently working on.
