Description

This resource is aimed at pupils in middle/senior classes or pupils with a keen interest in history, especially Irish history. Knowledge of key dates in Irish history is assumed for this resource. However, an answer key is included with this resource, which the pupil could check for the first few times he/she is using it. Historical events from the early twentieth century to the present are included in the pack.

Cut up the sheets into twenty separate cards and laminate them individually. Either the pupil or the teacher/SNA/supporting adult should read the name of the historical event on the left side of each card as well as the three year options on the right hand side of the card. The pupil should decide in what year the event took place. They should then place a clothes peg on the correct answer on the right of the card.

This pack could be split up into two packs of ten if so desired by the teacher

This activity is especially suitable for pupils who may not be able to write answers but have a keen interest in historical dates. It is a way for them to demonstrate this knowledge. It is also good for fine motor skills in the manipulation of the pegs onto the cards.

We frequently gave activities such as this for homework to our SEN pupils. It gave them the sense that they had homework like everyone else and it also allowed the parents to see what SESE topic we were currently working on.

This activity could also be used as an independent work task completed by a pupil in their work station.
